In 2018, WISE held a Congressional briefing hosted by New York Representative Thomas Suozzi (D) for members of Congress, staffers, think tanks, where WISE presented a Policy brief, with key recommendations for elected officials. WISE is continuing to present WISE Up to Mayors and elected officials to demonstrate a plan by American Muslims to proactively engage in safeguarding communities.

  • Engage directly with members of the Muslim community to develop relationships of trust. Representatives have a responsibility to engage with all their constituents and must “get to know their Muslim Neighbor.”
  • Include Muslim experts from all fields in meetings on a range of policy issues that are important to constituents.
  • Visit civic gatherings at local mosques and attend special religious celebrations.
  • Recognize exemplary local individuals, events, and programs through statements in the congressional record
