Biography

Dian Alyan, originally from Indonesia, had a successful executive career managing global connections with brands such as Pantene and Procter & Gamble before the 2004 tsunami in her home country changed the direction of her life and career. After losing 40 friends and relatives in this storm, Alyan was inspired to provide for children who go through similar devastating circumstances. That same year, the GiveLight Foundation was opened, with a focus on housing and educating children. The non-profit began in her homeplace of Aceh, Indonesia and has spread across the world with a goal of housing 10,000 children in response to natural disasters, poverty, and war. In this work, Alyan has traveled to 4 continents and 47 states to engage with children in need from many different cultures. GiveLight has responded to crisis in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Morocco, where land donations allow the organization to build housing for orphaned children in cooperation with credible and successful partnerships already established in the area. Alyan is a mother of her own with two boys, but she considers all children GiveLight reaches as a part of her family. Besides fundraising, visiting sites, and managing the executive tasks of the organization, Alyan is most passionate about the futures of these children that will be bright and full of love with her care.
