Collectively women of all faiths can learn from each other’s struggles and histories, while showing support for women’s religious leadership roles worldwide. The Rev. Dr. Katharine Henderson is the President of Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City as well as an author. Ordained as a Presbyterian minister, she is currently Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church in New York City.
Her recently published book, entitled God’s Troublemakers: How Women of Faith are Changing the World, focuses on the role of religious leadership, especially among women. The book centers on eleven women of various faiths whose spiritually inspired work is altering the world.
She is a facilitator Face to Face/Faith to Faith, an interfaith program for youth of all religions from conflict regions—Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus; Middle East, Northern Ireland, South Africa, and the United States. The program emphasizes religious traditions as a tool for peace as opposed to a reason for violence. Rev. Dr. Henderson aims to use religious pluralism through the Center for Multifaith Education
In that vein, she sits on the Boards of the New York Women’s Foundation and The Palestinian Children’s Initiative and the American Friends of the Interreligious Coordinating Council of Israel, and is a member of the Women’s Advisory Committee of the Council on Foreign Relations.
