Helen LaKelly Hunt has established several major philanthropic organizations. In 1981 she co-founded the Hunt Alternatives Fund, which provides grants and technical assistance in the area of human services. After a few years she recognized the need for unifying the various organizations focusing on women and in response she co-founded the National Network of Women’s Funds (now Women’s Funding Network) She has also helped to establish women’s organizations in both Dallas and New York.
Since 1992, she has been president of The Sister Fund, an organization that supports and gives voice to women working for justice from a religious framework. The fund offers women grants, technical support, communication tools and networking opportunities. She was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1994.
