About
Bibi Sahib Kaur married at a young age to Jaimal Singh, the local ruler of Bari Doab. In 1793 her brother Raja Sahib Singh, ruler of the town of Patiala, asked her to return home to be prime minister due to rising unrest. Soon after however, Sahib Kaur was forced to return to her husband who had been taken captive by his rival. After freeing him, she returned home in 1794 with her army in order to protect Patiala from attack. During her defense of the city she showed heroism and drew her sword in attack, keeping the lines of her forces intact.
While she was involved in more local skirmishes, she also defended the Sikhs against the British. In 1799, she battled the forces of George Thomas, forcing him to withdraw from the Sikh-controlled north.
Differences with her brother ended her military career early, and she died young in 1801.
