Homayra Ziad
Known For: Assistant Professor of Religion at Trinity College, Shura Council Member
Country: United States
About
Homayra Ziad is Assistant Professor of Religion at Trinity College, where she teaches courses on Islam. After receiving her first degree from Bryn Mawr, she earned a doctorate in Islamic Studies from Yale. She has published on Sufi theory and practice, Qur’anic studies, Urdu literature and qawwali, women and Islam, chaplaincy and Scriptural Reasoning, and Muslim liberation theology.
Homayra is currently hard at work on two books, on the intersections of spirituality and literary aesthetics in the work of the eighteenth-century Delhi theologian, poet and Sufi Mir Dard, and on Islam and humor. She is also co-editing a book on American Islam. She is deeply involved in interfaith initiatives and educational outreach on faith, and is a contributor to the Huffington Post’s HuffJummah. Homayra’s early exposure to religious and cultural diversity, as well as the interpretation of Islam that she grew up with, have helped her embrace the idea that the best way to live one’s faith it so live it inter-religiously.
