About
Gail Lloyd is an independent producer and director who has been involved with video and film for 16 years. Ms. Lloyd is currently producing documentaries for the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC) which explore domestic violence and prevention, and its impact on various segments of the African-American community.
Ms. Lloyd has directed and co-produced several documentaries including Smart, Proud, Respected: Student Success in Charter Schools, a documentary on a charter school in Waco, Texas. She produced for Kept Quiet, a half hour program on Drexel University’s Television Cable 54 in Philadelphia. Gail wrote and produced the documentary The Hottentot Venus, and co-produced, co-directed and edited Just Once, a same-sex, safer sex video for women. Both of these works have been broadcast nationally, and screened nationally and internationally.
Ms. Lloyd was awarded by Transformation Detroit, the Women of Color Task Force and the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Social Violence, in recognition of her “phenomenal video documentary, a sensitive portrait of Detroit communities of color domestic violence service organizations.” She is a recipient of the ABC (American Broadcasting Company) Entertainment Television Group’s Talent Development Program award for “recognition of creative excellence.”
