As Muslim women come together to stand up against injustice, they continue to face several challenges including domestic violence, unjust marriage and family laws and FGC. While these events are seen as morally unjust by the majority of Muslims, others have sanctioned these actions, basing their justification off of false religious claims and misinterpreted religious scriptures. However, Islam does not condone the unequal and unjust treatment of women, evident in the Qur’an and the hadith. It is important for Muslim women to inform themselves of these issues and the ways in which Islam can be used to counteract attempts to oppress women.
