Based in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Afghan Women’s Educational Center (AWEC) promotes human rights and gender equality for Afghan women through advocacy, social service delivery and sustainable development initiatives.
AWEC was established in Islamabad, Pakistan in 1991 as a way to address a lack of facilities for Afghan refugees. Since that time, AWEC has expanded to multiple cities in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and partnered with Afghan organizations to establish community centers and provide social services across Afghanistan. AWEC programs provide education for girls and entering schools, and professional training and health counseling for women.
